On the north end of the Angeles National Forest, Table Mountain Campground is large, roomy, and open. It’s got high mountain forests, and we really enjoyed our time here.
Unfortunately, bad luck hit us on this trip – Tom came down with a cold the night we rolled in, so we ended up driving home the very next day, so I didn’t get to spend much time soaking up the mature ponderosa pines throughout the campsite.
The campsite is very open, since it’s alpine forest on a plateau – so if you go on a long weekend, be ready to hear everybody’s music.
We were in the campground the first weekend in June, and at 7000 feet it got pretty chilly at night.
There are some beautiful viewpoints to stop at and check out on the way back to LA. This one also sits along the Pacific Crest Trail, and we saw a few through-hikers pass by on their way to Chilao.
